book review: the museum vaults

The Museum Vaults by Marc-Antoine Mathieu is a comic about an expert who goes into the Louvre to inspect and account for everything inside. This is a much deeper and larger museum than the one in France and is filled with riffs on the nature of museums and art and collecting something without end.

I liked it but there wasn’t anything incredibly compelling about it. I remember reading another in this series of comics commissioned by the Louvre a couple of years ago, Glacial Period by Nicolas de Crecy, which was better, more about the dangers of expeditions of this sort. Or maybe I’m just miffed because the library in this one gets short shrift.
