movie review: get low

I saw Get Low on the recommendation of my film prof friend, after complaining to him that the only movies I’d seen in the theatre in 2010 had been big action movies. Get Low is not an action movie. It is a movie about a horrible old hermit in the ’30s throwing a funeral for himself and about forgiveness. Bill Murray is in it, but Robert Duvall’s portrayal of Felix Bush is the real draw here. I wasn’t a huge fan of Lucas Black’s performance, which felt a little too on the nose as the “good guy” of the story.

Story-wise it was okay but not great. Supposedly it’s based on a sort of true story, which makes the clichedness a little less grating. But as an acting-delivery vector it’s pretty good. What these actors wring out of the story is probably worth your time.
