book review: the imagination manifesto 1

GMB Chomichuk and John Toone did a Making Comics workshop at the library at the end of May, and I finally got around to reading one of their comics. Several of their comics actually, as The Imagination Manifesto has a bunch of separate stories from separate universes inside. It’s dark and violent stuff with interesting page-layouts. I have the hardcover edition and the paper’s real nice and glossy.

Story-wise everything felt very introductory. To be expected in a volume one. There were interesting ideas but it’s hard to tell exactly what kind of shape everything might take. Evidently volume 2 will be coming out in fall 2010, so we’ll see how that goes. In the workshop they did they talked about the European prestige format for comics, and this is definitely taking that kind of path. Interesting stuff.
